Our biggest enemy this trip has been of our own making, we were tired before we ever started. We decided to cancel the extra two days and wind things up today. We crossed sight-seeing off the list until next time and instead took it easy with two quick stops to the SAS shoe store and a pottery shop. It turns out that Williamsburg Pottery isn’t a shop but rather a strip mall that doesn’t have anything to do with pottery. That made heading back to the hotel an easy decision. The temperatures have been near 100 degrees and a storm is due this afternoon.
The storm arrived while we were dining at Outback Steakhouse. We were fortunate to have gone early because this entire area lost power around 5:10. It seems a substation was taken off grid by the storm leaving a huge area without electricity. By 9:00 p.m. we decided to check out of the Hampton and head back to Maryland so Deane could get a good night’s sleep with his C-Pap machine. On the plus side, traffic in downtown Washington D.C. was easy to handle. Amy had the light on in our room and the garage empty for us to pull the car in. What a welcome home!
Note: I called the hotel Friday night and learned the hotel was still without power. We definitely made the right choice of coming home early.
